Home Screen Infrastructure: Observatory Perspective

Home Screen Pilot

The Connected TV Marketing Association Observatory is examining the evolving role of operating systems and home screen environments as structural coordination layers within the connected TV ecosystem.

As streaming distribution continues to scale globally, industry architecture is expanding across cloud delivery, encoding environments, identity frameworks and programmatic monetisation systems. Within this increasingly layered environment, the operating system and home screen interface are emerging as the point at which distribution pathways become visible and accessible to audiences in practice.

Policy Convergence

At the same time, policy frameworks are extending beyond traditional broadcasting categories toward platform-distributed environments, including developments in VoD regulation, smart TV prominence frameworks and platform oversight. These developments indicate growing recognition that discoverability and accessibility are shaped not only by content availability, but by how services are presented within device-level interfaces.

CTVMA Observatory

The home screen is therefore becoming an important coordination layer where infrastructure development and policy implementation increasingly intersect.

CTVMA Observatory research examines global OS and home screen environments as part of a broader effort to support transparency, shared reference context and informed dialogue across connected TV markets.

Current observatory scope:

• Home Screen Database

• Global Home Screen Observatory

• Platform Transparency Index

• Interface Governance Research

As connected TV infrastructure continues to evolve, structured reference frameworks may assist industry participants in understanding how distribution environments operate across devices, markets and regulatory contexts.

The CTVMA Observatory welcomes dialogue with platform operators, broadcasters, technology providers and policy stakeholders interested in contributing perspectives to the development of shared reference infrastructure.
